Management of the ecological impacts of urban land and activities on waterways - Issues Paper: understanding the science
30/06/2016
This Melbourne Water report provides a summary of current and emerging science on the ecological impacts of urbanisation on waterways. The report is framed with the view to inform waterway management planning; it aims to clearly articulate what we know of the issue, whilst exploring the complexity of waterway science.
The paper is structured in three main sections with supporting appendices:
- The first section provides an overview of the pressures associated with urbanisation and their impacts on waterway condition.
- The second section discusses key concepts relating to the impacts of urbanisation, including how waterway condition can be assessed and predicted.
- The final section considers mitigation strategies, and reframes knowledge to inform the development of management strategies.
