Growing evidence shows that access to the natural environment improves health and well-being, as well as preventing disease and helping people recover from illness. Experiencing nature in an outdoor environment can help tackle mental health problems, obesity, and coronary heart disease.
This report demonstrates the importance of accessibility to parks and open spaces for all members of the community, focusing on children, young people at risk, people on low incomes and older people. This document is the executive summary of a literature review from the School of Health and Social Development, Deakin University. The literature review was prepared for beyondblue: the national depression initiative.
