The Australian Productivitiy Commission have released a draft Indigenous Evaluation Strategy providing a whole-of-government framework for Australian government agencies to use when selecting, planning, conducting and using evaluations of policies and programs affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The strategy puts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at its centre. It recognises the need to draw on the perspectives, priorities and knowledges of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people if outcomes are to be improved.

The strategy (which is accompanied by a strategy guide and background paper) has been created to put the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, priorities, knowledges at the centre of evaluations of policies and programs that affect them. The strategy aims to ‘lift the bar’ on the quality of evaluations and enhance the use of evaluations to inform policy and program design. The strategy promotes a whole-of-government approach to priority setting and evaluation of policies and programs affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
