Development Integrated Water Management Plans - guidance for developers

20/03/2019

As part of the land development process, Western Water require developers to produce a Development IWM Plan. The Development IWM plan must outline how the whole water cycle will be managed across the new development. The planning process brings together the water cycle management requirements of Western Water, Melbourne Water and the local council into a single plan.

This Integrated Water Management - Developer Guidance, developed in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP), Melbourne Water, Western Water, Hume City Council, Macedon Ranges Shire Council, City of Melton and Moorabool Shire Council, provides assistance to developers and their consultants to ensure that Integrated Water Management Plans for their new developments advance water management solutions that support the values of the community into the long-term. The IWM Developer Guidance outlines how a developer can meet these water cycle management requirements.

IWM Plans facilitate a more holistic approach to urban water management that enables development, and the provision of water services, while also protecting environmental values and building resilience to climate change. Planning with an IWM approach and implementing IWM solutions will ensure the best value infrastructure is provided for customers, and the resulting services will support thriving, liveable communities and natural environments.
