Dear Clearwater Newsletter Subscriber, Happy new year and welcome to Clearwater's latest update. We hope you enjoyed time with family and friends during the festive season. Since our last newsletter, there have been some exciting developments for the water industry. Read on below to find out more... News highlights - There have been significant improvements to the planning system to support the implementation of IWM through Amendment VC154, which increases the number and type of developments which must actively treat and manage stormwater as a requirement of planning permits
- The release of the DELWP IWM Forum Strategic Directions Statements which document the vision for short term opportunities for collaboration and longer term direction within each catchment
- The State Environment Protection Policy (Waters) Review will ensure that Victoria has a contemporary statutory policy for the protection and management of surface water and groundwater in Victoria
- 2018 Clearwater Water Leader Scholarship recipients announced. Congratulations to our six emerging water leaders from across the state - Darcy Meehan, Jackie Bowe, Justin Hinch, Liam Sibly, Richard Lovett and Sarah Wright
Resources highlights - Clearwater has recently created a new Tool for Water Sensitive Urban Design Guidelines which organises information according to WSUD asset type and the project management stage they relate to, so that the user can quickly and easily find the information most relevant to them
- Read through the recently released Healthy Waterways Strategy and its catchment programs to understand the regional vision for the health of rivers, estuaries and wetlands in the Port Phillip and Westernport region
- Explore the papers and presentations from the recent Stormwater Australia conference held in Sydney
- Clearwater has recently published five new case studies. The first publication ESD Subdivisions in Regional Victoria is a synopsis of AECOM’s report in which gaps and opportunities were identified for environmental sustainable development (ESD) for subdivisions in Regional Victoria, including a roadmap for achieving ESD subdivisions. Stay tuned for the upcoming case studies: Eastbank Lake Revitalisation, Kilmore Offset Scheme, Gellibrand River Summer Flows and the Bendigo Urban Flood Study.
Upcoming events Congratulations to Laurie Gervasi of Bass Coast Shire Council who won the Samsung Galaxy tablet for filling out the Clearwater regional IWM capacity building survey, out of 109 respondents! Hope 2019 proves to be a very productive year and we look forward to seeing you soon.
