The National Water Commission has been undertaking a national project "Improving urban water quality regulation - phase 1". This project involves a review of national water quality regulatory approvals processes and practices with a focus on approval pathways for new and emerging water recycling and reuse technologies. The project will assess the overall performance of the water quality regulatory framework in Australia outlining challenges associated with the current system and options for rectifying identified problems. Information from this review will be used at to improve the regulation of water quality in Australia, particularly with regard to emerging water recycling and reuse technologies.
