How did Paris clean up the Seine for the Olympics?

Much of Australia, and the world, is caught up with Olympics fever this July and August. This Olympics, there is some particularly exciting news related to healthy waterways. For the first time in the history of the modern games, several swimming events are scheduled to be held in an urban river - the iconic Seine. Right now, there is much anticipation about which events will be able to go ahead following recent heavy rain.
