Overview

Do you work in stormwater or urban greening and want to learn about the latest innovations in permeable paving technology? Join Clearwater and Merri-bek City Council for an exclusive site tour of the recently completed permeable kerb and channel pilot project in Fawkner.

This hands-on event offers the opportunity to:

  • Hear directly from leading researchers and designers
  • See a live permeability demonstration in action
  • Gain insights into innovative materials, design, and installation techniques
  • Learn about the pilot project’s delivery model and key takeaways
  • Connect with industry peers over morning tea and site discussions.

Project partners from University of Melbourne, Porous Lane and Melbourne Water will share insights through presentations and Q&A followed by a morning tea and small-group site demonstrations.

Learning outcomes

After attending this event, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the benefits and applications for permeable paving
  • Describe the fundamental principles, function and key components of permeable paving systems
  • Understand the design, installation and maintenance of the permeable kerb and channel
  • Explain how research and innovation was applied within the pilot project, e.g. design, materials, installation.
  • Apply insights from the pilot project methodology to future projects

 

Participants also have the opportunity to expand their professional network and improve collaboration in designing and delivering of permeable paving and other green infrastructure solutions.

Audience

Anyone responsible for or influencing the planning, design, or maintenance of small-scale stormwater management assets or urban greening.

For example maintenance teams, capital works delivery, engineers and urban designers, urban forest teams, open space teams, particularly from local government and consulting engineering or landscaping companies.

Presentations, Q&A, on-site demonstration, and a light morning tea.

Requirements

The site demonstration will be held outdoors. All attendees are to wear sunsafe clothes and enclosed shoes during the demonstration. In case of extreme weather, the event will be rescheduled and we will update attendees as needed.
