This series of half-day workshops provide a platform for Local Government, Water Corporations and Catchment Management Authorities to explore the values and community needs specific to your local area, and develop a shared understanding of the role of water in supporting regional communities.
Clearwater is hosting more People, place, planning workshops in new regions later this year. Details are still being finalised, so stay tuned for locations and venues over the cominig weeks.
This workshop series is supported by the Victorian Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning with registrations offered at a subsidised rate. Chad Foulkes
Chad Foulkes has worked in community development and been at the forefront of community engagement and deliberative practices for a decade. He has been involved in the development of community development strategies and frameworks for the Surf Coast Shire Council where he commissioned and designed the first two citizens’ juries in Victorian a Local Government which won an award from the IAP2. Stepping out from local government into consulting he co-delivered the first participatory budget in Victoria as part of a consortium at Darebin.
Alongside his endeavours in deliberative democracy and high end community engagement Chad has paved a career in Public Health. This started back in 1999 at the Australian Institute of Family Studies working on Youth Suicide and Child Abuse Prevention; to 2006 where he lead the field again by overseeing delivery of a Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan before they were required by the State Act; to his time at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University which began in 2010 where he also worked at CO-OPS and designed and delivered dozens of professional development sessions across the nation.
Jeremy Cheeseman
Jeremy is a Director at Marsden Jacob Associates, Australia’s leading boutique natural resource economics advisory practice. He is an experienced environmental and resource economist, specialising in water and the environment.Jeremy has significant and award winning experience in the Victorian urban and rural water sectors, and IWM, stormwater, waterway and catchment economics and policy. This includes specialist experience and expertise in economic benefits of IWM investments, IWM cost-sharing frameworks.
Esther Kay
Esther Kay is principal Director of Environment & Land Management Pty Ltd. Esther has over 25 years of experience in statutory and strategic planning in Melbourne and regional Victoria. She is a town planner who is also experienced in water and environmental policy, specifically the way that the planning system can contribute to better environmental outcomes whilst also improving local amenity. She has co-authored several major papers for State and local government dealing with water in the environment.
Esther has held several key roles during her planning career. Before entering the consulting world, Esther worked as a Planning Director in local government. Over the past decade Esther’s other roles have included appointment as a Director of Coliban Water, as a long standing member of Planning Panels Victoria and as President of Stormwater Victoria.
Peter Breen
With a long and diverse career in industry, government, academia and research, Peter has experience in all aspects of the water sector. He has a longstanding interest in the integration of water science into the master planning and management of urban and rural catchments. This has driven his collaborative interest in master planning, urban design and landscape architecture.
Peter is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at Monash University, and a project leader at their Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities. He is widely published in the fields of water sensitive urban design and water sensitive cities master planning, having authored or co-authored more than 100 papers. Peter is a member of the Australian Society for Limnology, the Australian Water Association, the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Ecological Society of Australia, the Society for Restoration Ecology, and the Wetland Specialist Group of the International Water Association.
