Raingardens Essentials

Tuesday 10th May 2011 9:00AM - 4:00PM

Karstens Conference Rooms
123 Queen Street, Melbourne, Victoria, 3000

Raingardens are an effective small scale stormwater treatment option. They remove heavy metals, phosphorous and nitrogen from stormwater, reducing pollutant loads to our rivers and bays.

This three quarter day workshop provides detailed guidance on the design and construction of raingardens and biofilters. The workshop covers site analysis, design, materials selection, contract management of construction and maintenance to ensure project success.

The workshop is appropriate for people who plan and manage the urban built environment (streetscape, carpark and parkland elements) and are looking for ways to utilise stormwater and improve the quality of run off stormwater.

At the end of this session you will:

  • Understand design criteria for rain gardens and how they work
  • Know correct specification for materials for use in rain garden filters
  • Understand how good project management can help avoid common pitfalls
  • Know how to maintain the system

Ideal for planners, architects, builders, landscape designers, site supervisors, horticultural staff, asset managers and environment officers
