Regional WSUD Asset Management and Maintenance training

DEECA-Clearwater Regional Training Program

Clearwater, in partnership with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), are delivering a number of training sessions in the management and maintenance of water sensitive urban design (WSUD) assets across Regional Victoria. The aim is to support regional IWM Forum Partners in implementation of integrated water management practices.

Workshops will be delivered for several IWM Forum regions as follows:

2. Traralgon- 1st Apr 2026

3. Yarrawonga - 21st May 2026

5. Bendigo - 29th Apr 2026

6. Ballarat - 30th Apr 2026

7. Geelong - 27th May 2026

Workshop Overview

The training is designed to improve participants' understanding of WSUD asset management fundamentals, of the different WSUD asset types (such as biofiltration / raingardens, tree pits, swales, permeable paving and constructed wetlands) and of how to maintain these assets. The training is geared towards facilitating the connection with other practitioners in the area with similar roles and management challenges. It will support individuals in identifying priority actions and "next steps" for the proper management of WSUD assets.

Workshop Audience

This training is designed for a broad audience from regional IWM forums with a role in WSUD management.  The session has been structured to ensure relevance to:

  1. ‘Maintenance staff’:  staff with a role in overseeing and/or undertaking the maintenance of WSUD assets (e.g. asset maintenance coordinators/team leaders, lead WSUD maintenance field staff).
  2. ‘Broader staff’: middle management (coordinator to manager level) with a broader role in the lifecycle management (planning, design, delivery and/or maintenance) of WSUD assets, both from a capital works and developer-led perspective.  This may include relevant staff involved in such areas as asset management, engineering, parks/open space, urban design, etc.)

Presenters / Facilitators

The course will be delivered by expert presenters, Jamie Comley (Jamie Comley Environmental Consulting) and Jason Sonneman (DesignFlow).

This training is sponsored by DEECA.

Registration is by invitation only to IWM Forum Members.
