Learn about Victoria’s stormwater planning requirements and how to interpret planning application and engineering documentation for best practice stormwater management.

Training Overview

This course provides a practical understanding of Victoria’s stormwater planning requirements (within the Victoria Planning Provisions). The Victorian Government expanded state-wide stormwater planning controls in October 2018 to help protect our waterways, prevent flooding and divert more rainfall / stormwater to our parks and reserves.    This training will familiarise you with state-wide stormwater planning controls and recent reforms and teach you to interpret planning application documentation, including engineering reports, to enable you to assess if planning requirements are being met.

This course is designed to help planners and engineers understand the links between water and cities, learn about the role and scope of the new state-wide controls, and gain confidence in assessing planning applications in a way that best achieves our new stormwater objectives.

Audience

  • Public and private sector practitioners who want to deepen their stormwater knowledge.

  • Local Government statutory / strategic planners and engineers, who play a role in implementing Victoria’s stormwater planning requirements.

  • Any other senior and junior staff who is involved in implementing stormwater controls and/or asset management.

Delivery Mode & Format

Duration: One-day online training

Format: presentation, quizzes, Q&A and interactive activities. Participants are guided through worked examples.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand Victorian context for state wide stormwater planning controls;

  • Increase your understanding of Integrated Water Management (IWM) and stormwater management assets, their spatial requirements and how they look and function;

  • Understand stormwater treatment requirements and concepts such as “treat to best practice”;

  • Build your ability to interpret planning application documentation, including engineering reports, to enable you to assess if planning requirements are met. This relates to the full suite of stormwater controls including cl.19.03-3S, cl. 53.18 and others;

  • Build your ability to apply modelling tools such as Blue Factor Tool to ensure compliance.
