Overview

Join Clearwater and Heath Baker, Melbourne Water Senior Planning Engineer, on a half day tour through Old Joes Creek in the Dandenong Catchment, to learn about a new industrial area stormwater pollution monitoring project.

The project is currently being conducted in a partnership between Melbourne Water, EPA, South East Water, Knox City Council and CAPIM (Centre for Aquatic Pollution Identification and Management). The project objective is to improve stream quality within Dandenong Creek by preventing illegal discharges from industrial land areas. This industrial area has been targeted for monitoring due to the high level of industrial contamination in the form of metals, pesticides, hydrocarbons and surfactants.

On this tour you will -

  • Visit three sites upstream and downstream from the industrial area to gain an understanding of how industrial pollution is impacting the catchment
  • Hear partners discuss the science, technology and project collaboration including presenters from Melbourne Water, Monash University, Iota Services and First Friends of Dandenong Creek
  • Learn about the pollution sources and the issues with education, monitoring and compliance enforcement for business owners / residents in the industrial park
  • See the remote pollution detection technologies that are being trialled and explore the potential benefits and challenges of live monitoring
  • Join discussions to explore where this type of approach might be applicable within other areas of Victoria
  • Network and collaborate over a sit down lunch at a local restaurant.
